The Wildfish fly selection packs from JM Gillies are real eye catchers and sure fire winners for those new to fly fishing and even for some who might be not so new to the sport. There are nine packs (10 Felty’s flies in each) in the range and these are divided into two groups, the Freshwater Trout packs and various Eastuary/Saltwater packs. The reality is that there’s plenty of overlap. For example the Trout Streamer Pack would very easily be at home in the kit of a bass fisherman or in fact a fly fisherman just about anywhere around the country. Conversely the Bass Pack contains flies that are just as at home in many tropical freshwater systems right across the north and in the Billabong Pack are flies that would light up the eyes of a bass fisherman. It’s a very versatile selection that’s been put together by Peter Morse.

The Muddlers are used as surface flies for Bass fishing, treat them with fly floatant to keep them bouyant.  Cast a Bass surface fly back at the bank or in amongst the holes in the lily pads and weed beds. Let them float for 10 seconds and then give them a twitch. Fish them slowly, don’t scare the Bass by blooping them too hard. Sinking Bass flies are cast back at the bank and allowed to sink – also use them around deep weed beds. Please note this selection is also excellent for tropical freshwater river species such as Jungle Perch, Saratoga, and Sooty Grunters.
